42 Intentions
A collection of cyanotype photograms gathered at the ocean’s edge on the forty-second anniversary of my birth. Utilizing sculptural ceramics from my Streaming series and cyanotype paper. The cylindrical shapes bear a resemblance to candles one might see on a birthday cake. This collection of prints was gathered in anticipation of the year to come. To set intentions for the year of 42. I made a list of forty-two intentions for the year and wrote one on the back of each print. Along with the intention I added thoughts about that intention or sketched imagery that might or might not connect to the intention.
The set of prints was on view at The Art Project in Oklahoma June-August 2019, a one time only show. The prints were hung on bulldog clips, allowing viewers to flip the prints over to read the back. The handwritten notes were intimate and showing them felt raw and vulnerable. Many viewers likened the experience to reading someone’s journal. The list of intentions is included at the bottom of this page. The backs of most prints will be held as a shared experience between those who visited the exhibition and me.
